The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), through the EISD Department, is offering an internship opportunity that lasts up to eighteen (18) months.
DEPARTMENT: Environment, Infrastructure, and Services Department (EISD)
BRANCH: Strategic Coordination and Integration
DESIGNATION: GIS Internship
SALARY: If you have completed your qualification with at least 360 credits, you will be paid R9 531.54 per month (basic salary, no benefits).
If you are still a student, you will receive R3 500.00 per month (basic salary, no benefits).
WORKPLACE: 118 Jorissen Street, Traduna Building, Johannesburg
• You must have a diploma or degree in Environmental Management and GIS or an equivalent qualification recognized at SAQA level 5 or 6.
• The institution plans to extend your training by including practical or experiential learning in the field of GIS or Environmental Management as part of your studies.
• You need to be computer literate with experience in ArcGIS and MS Office applications.
• Knowledge of Environmental Management and having a National Diploma in Environmental Management is an added advantage.
• Only residents of the City of Johannesburg will be considered.
You will provide GIS services related to environmental management data and assist with some project management tasks in the City of Johannesburg.
You will also work with both internal and external people, including other government offices, officials, and service providers.
• Help map and organize environmental data on ArcGIS for the department’s directorates.
• Take part in Environmental Awareness events.
• Build trust, raise awareness about cultural differences, and ensure attendance at administrative meetings.
• Follow the GIS and Environmental Management procedures of the CoJ and make sure they are carried out properly.
• Computer skills in MS Office and ArcGIS, as well as email.
• Good organisation and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, including speaking, listening, and writing.
• Good time management and the ability to work under pressure.
