Placement: Bontebok National Park, Western Cape, South Africa
Duration: 18 months (6 months training + 12 months placement)

Are you passionate about wildlife, eco-tourism, and conservation? SANParks, in partnership with CATHSSETA, invites jobless South African youth to apply for the Field Guiding Skills Programme 2026 at Bontebok National Park. This 18-month learnership offers accredited training and hands-on experience designed to launch your career in conservation and eco-tourism.

Programme Details:

  • 6 months Training: Receive theoretical and practical guidance skills training
  • 12 months Placement: Gain on-the-job experience at Bontebok National Park
  • Stipend: R2,695 (training phase), R3,500 (placement phase)
  • SANParks covers training-related travel and accommodation costs

What You Will Learn:

  • Guiding principles and ethics
  • Wildlife identification (flora and fauna)
  • Conservation and environmental mindfulness
  • Visitor communications and guiding techniques
  • Safety procedures in protected areas
  • Professional conduct and public interaction

Who Can Apply?

  • South African citizen
  • Under 35 years of age
  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • Unemployed
  • Living within 40–100 km of Bontebok National Park
  • Clear criminal record
  • Physically fit
  • Not previously participated in SANParks’ related programmes

  • Academic transcripts (if applicable)
  • Proof of residence
