Key Responsibilities:
As a Cashier at Dis-Chem, you will be the face of the company for many customers. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Customer Service Excellence: Adhering to Dis-Chem’s policies and procedures to provide outstanding customer service, building professional relationships, and escalating complaints or compliments to management.
- Efficient Transactions: Accurately and efficiently processing customer purchases, including handling cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, and various loyalty programs (Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards and eBucks).
- Cash Handling & Security: Managing cash flow responsibly, ensuring the safe and secure handling of daily takings, and adhering to Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures. This includes using your unique code and password responsibly and regularly changing it.
- Operational Duties: Approving line voids and price changes with supervisor authorization, exchanging merchandise and processing returns when authorized, ensuring all outgoing stock is scanned and paid for, and responsibly placing cash in the drop safe according to SOPs
- Product Knowledge & Promotion Awareness: Answering customer queries regarding store merchandise and staying informed about current sales and promotions.
- Safety and Security: Ensuring a safe environment for both colleagues and customers, and reporting any suspicious behavior to management.
- Communication: Embodying Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles in all interactions.
Essential Requirements:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education: Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- Experience: A minimum of 6 months’ experience in a cashier/till operations role.
- Computer Skills: Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office.
- Numerical Skills: Sound numerical abilities.
- Communication Skills: Strong command of the English language.
- Customer Service Skills: Basic customer service skills.
- Availability: Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
